When I was little, I lived in a house with a beautiful garden full of all kinds of flowers, and roses were the most beautiful of them. There was nothing I enjoyed more than sitting in the garden with my mother as she read stories to me. When I was in primary school and old enough to read, I enjoyed reading stories aloud to her.

I will never forget one day when I was in the third grade. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had rehearsed (排练) my lines so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator’s (旁白、解说员)part to the play, and asked me to change roles. Her word, kindly expressed, still hurt, especially when I saw my part go to another girl.

I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home after school that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to take a walk in the garden.

It was May and roses were blossoming and, under the trees, we could also see yellow dandelions (蒲公英) in the grass, as if a painter had painted our garden with red, yellow and green. I watched my mother casually bend down by one dandelion. “I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling it up by its roots. “From now on, we'll have only roses in this garden.”

“But I like dandelions,” I protested. “All flowers are beautiful —— even dandelions.”

My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower is beautiful in its own way, isn’t it?” She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly. 注意:

第二节(满分25分) 读后续写参考范文:

“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said, reminding me how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. “The narrator's part is just as important as the part of a princess.” Her wise words inspired me with courage and confidence. But on the evening of the performance, I suddenly felt nervous backstage again. My teacher came over to me. “Your mother asked me to give you this,” she said, handing me a dandelion. Looking at it, I knew my mother was out there for me, which calmed me down. (83词)

After the play, I took home the flower. My mother made it into a dried flower and put it into a glass bottle. Every time I see it, I am reminded of this unforgettable experience. I have taken part in many school plays, tried different roles and made many speeches ever since. Gradually, I’ve become really good at performing and public speaking, seldom feeling nervous onstage now. For this, I am forever grateful to my mother, who have made me what I am today. (77词)

He met her at a party. She was so outstanding, with many boys around her, while he was so ordinary, with nobody paying attention to him.

At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him. She was surprised, but out of politeness, she agreed.

They sat in a nice coffee shop. He was too nervous to say anything, and she felt uncomfortable, thinking, \"Please let me go home.\"

Suddenly he asked the waiter, \"Would you please give me some salt? I'd like to put it in my coffee.\" Everybody stared at him. So strange! His face turned red, but, still, he put the salt in his coffee and drank it. She asked him curiously, \"Why do you have this hobby?\"

He replied, \"When I was a little boy, I was living near the sea. I liked playing in the sea, and I could feel the taste of the sea, just like the taste of the salty coffee. Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think of my childhood. I miss so much my hometown and my parents who are still living there.\"

While saying that he couldn't hold back his tears. She was deeply touched. That's his true feeling, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can speak out his homesickness must be a man who loves home, cares about home, and has responsibility for his family.

Then she also started to speak about her faraway hometown, her childhood, and her family. That was a really nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story.

They continued to date. She found that actually he was a man who met all her demands: he was kind-hearted, warm and careful. He was such a good person but she almost missed him.

Thanks to his salty coffee! Then the story went on just like every beautiful love story: the princess married the prince, and then they were living in happiness…And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some salt in the coffee.

Learning the truth while reading the letter, 第二节

After 40 years, he passed away, leaving her a letter. It said, “My dearest, please forgive my only lie I told you – the salty coffee. Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous that I said salt. Actually I wanted some sugar.” He said many times he wanted to tell her the truth, but he was afraid of losing her. He also told her having her with him was his biggest happiness in his life. If he could live for a second time, he still wanted to marry her.

Learning the truth while reading the letter, she wept, with tears rolling down her face. Never had she doubted it. Thinking that every time he drank the strange taste of coffee, she found her heart ached a lot. Her husband was such a kind-hearted and considerate man that he hid the truth for his whole life. How deeply he loved her! Someday,

someone asked her, “What’s the taste of salty coffee?” “It’s sweet,” she replied. 广东省2021届高三普通高中学业质量联合测评英语试卷 第二节(满分25分)

You can get a kitten,\" I promised my seven-year-old daughter, Cali. \"As soon as we gut settled in our new apartment. ” Her life had been uprooted when her father and I divorced. So one morning, we headed to North Bay Animal Services to pick out her new pet.

There were plenty of cats to choose from, but Cali had her heart set on two orange — and — white kittens. The attendant told us they were brothers called Caramel and Butter. They played like best friends. When they tired out, they curled around each other, their identical markings creating what looked like a heart.

Cali wanted to take them both. But the landlord had made it clear that we could only have one pet in the apartment. Finally, we decided to bring Caramel home. Cali renamed him Ozzy. That night I watched Ozzy and Cali fall asleep together, telling myself they d forget about the other kitten soon.

How wrong I was! Ozzy did seem lonely without his twin. No matter how Cali and I tried to distract him over the next few days, he wandered around the apartment, crying , as if looking for his brother. After two weeks of being like this , I broke down. We drove back to the shelter, only to be told Butter had been adopted four days ago.

Cali was sad, and I was so desperate to calm her down that I said something foolish. \"Well find Butter and adopt him too ,\" I said. \"What are you doing?” I asked myself. I knew I'd never be able to fulfill that promise. But it was the only thing that seemed to bring my daughter some peace.

With time, Ozzy got used to being on his own. And Cali stopped asking about the other kitten. Our new life was working-out just as I'd hoped. I even started dating again. Brian, who had lost his wife four years ago, seemed promising. He had a daughter, Ruby, just a year older than Cali. I'd met him online and talked to him for months before we planned a dinner at his home. 注意:

Throughout life, we come across many people who impact us in a way. The person who left a great impact on me is my dad.

Three months after turning fourteen, my life was great. I was getting settled into a high school; my grades were already starting off greatly and I was making friends. One day as I came home from school, I walked into our living room, finding my mom and dad talking. My parents turned to me and told me to sit down because there was something important they had to tell me. I soon found out that my dad’s liver (肝脏) was failing and he needed an immediate transplant. I was shocked and confused. He was working and never looked sick. My parents told me not to worry because everything would be fine. Four months had passed and my dad still had not received a new liver; he was progressively getting worse. His body seemed to be getting weaker, but he constantly said he was fine.

It was getting hard for my family and me. My dad had to quit his job leaving my mom to be the only provider. I had to take on the responsibility of cleaning the house, cooking meals and checking on my dad while my mom was at work. I had to cut back on hanging with my friends because my dad was beginning to go in and out of the hospital. My focus for school was starting to slip. So were my grades. Two nights before my school spring break, my mom received a call from the hospital that my dad had been in a car accident and that he was in hospital. Surprisingly, my dad hadn’t received a scratch on him. Then next night my mom received a call from the doctor stating that there was a liver that matched my dad’s body and that he needed to get to the hospital immediately. Para. 1

My mom and I rushed to the hospital and my dad was brought into surgery.

My mom and I rushed to the hospital and my dad was brought into surgery. We were waiting anxiously outside. After what seemed to be a long time, his doctor came out and informed us that the surgery was successful, but my dad couldn't leave the hospital for at least a month. During my dad's stay in the hospital and his adapting to his new liver, my father still tried to comfort us, saying that everything would be OK. Pare. 2

Having to take on so many responsibility at home and constantly worn about my dad has helped shaped me into the person I am today. I become more responsible for my family and even for everything. Seeing my dad remain positive and strong throughout his journey has taught me not to take my life for granted, but still positive to life. Also, having seen my dad in hospital for months has inspired me to go into the medical field as a doctor. Thus, I can do everything in my power to help those in need.
